Raspberries are very versatile in the kitchen, ideal for all types of desserts, fresh or cooked, and they are very common in jams, ice creams and different baking recipes. It also combines very well in savory dishes, from a vinaigrette to a puree or coulis that dresses meat or fish.
The raspberry derives its name from raspise, «a sweet pinkish wine.»
It is native to Europe and apparently has its origin in Greece, where it was found in the wild on Mount Ida. From Greece it went to Italy, the Netherlands, England and later to North America.
